Antimony

Metallic antimony is characterized by high brittleness and is rarely used in pure form. However, as it increases the hardness of other metals (tin, lead) and does not oxidize in standard conditions, the metallurgists quite often load it into the composition of various alloys.

Antimony is among those few metals, which expand at solidification.

Intermetallic compositions of antimony with aluminium, gallium, indium are characterized by semi-conducting properties.

Antimony is applied as an alloying element in the tin-, lead-, copper-based alloys (babbits, solders, alloys for pressure casting).

Fusion temperature is 630 °C.
